In essence, search engine optimization (SEO) means doing whatever it takes to make your website more noticeable in the results of popular search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. While whole books and tens of thousands of websites have been devoted to the study and dissemination of facts about search engine optimization, doing it primarily boils down to two things:
Making Your Website Search Engine Friendly
You want to make sure that specific keywords appear prominently throughout your website and that the design is both easy for people to use and for Google and other search engines to look through. There are many specific things you can do to make this happen but that’s something we’ll talk about in another article.
Getting the Word Out Online
The second part of SEO is basically to get the word out online. Get links back to your website in appropriate places and Google and the other search engines will consider these as if they are “votes” for your site and rank you accordingly. Again, it’s rather complex but that’s the basic concept behind SEO.
